Publishing EBooks on Amazon

As the world steadily shifts from paperback to electronic books and readers becoming more familiar with formats, ebooks are finally becoming main stream. Add this to the fact that devices likes the nook, Kindle and iPad are becoming more popular every day and you’ll find that ebook publication are becoming a lucrative opportunity for writers. The best thing: it’s very easy. The steps below detail all you need.

Now What?

1. Sign up with the Amazon Digital Text Platform; if you already have an Amazon.com account, you can use the same login details. If you don’t, you will need to register and create an account before using DTP.
2. Now click on My Shelf > My New Item buttons which will take you to a page with three tabs: Publication Details, Upload and Preview, Enter Price.
3. Under the ‘Publications Details’ page, visible after following step 2 above, red x’s will denote fields not completed. This page lets you fill in the title, author’s name, ISBN and description. Though only the first two are required, the more information you fill the better the book will be found on the platform.
4. Clicking the ‘Upload and Preview’ tab will let you upload your manuscript in .html, .txt, .doc and .pdf format files. Once this has been completed, you can also preview what your final manuscript will look like (on the Kindle) and adjust accordingly.
5. Under the ‘Enter Price’ tab, you can input the price for your eBook which can be anywhere from $0.99 to $200, although it is important to factor in Amazon’s cut. This will depend on the terms and conditions.
6. Always ensure you click the ‘Save Entries’ button when finalizing your eBook. When doing this, you may be prompted to complete missing account information to successfully publish the book on the site. It will take Amazon approximately 72 hours to publish your book, and one week for it to be cataloged.
